WHO CAN APPLY

We accept proposals from independent journalists as well as groups of journalists, collectives, blogs.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We welcome unpublished works related to migration, human rights, social justice, and economic inequalities — ideally, local stories with global relevance and designed for an international audience. Hidden has a long-form journalism approach: please, send pieces that consist of at least 2000 words, best if supplemented by photos and videos.

WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR

We will not consider fiction, interviews made for their own sake, editorials and opinion articles, news, pieces with a generic slant or not supported by documentable evidence.

OUR EVALUATION METHOD

We will do our best to fund stories from diverse geographic backgrounds and heterogeneous topics. We will give priority to proposals:

– that distinctly portray sources and interviews to be used;
– that may have international relevance;
– that offer perspectives ignored by the mainstream media;
– the publication of which can help bring about positive change for the communities involved.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SEND US YOUR PROPOSAL

We will respond to each application as soon as possible.

Should we find your story interesting and consistent with the Hidden series, we may ask you to join us in a brief video chat and delve into the details of your pitch. If we seem to be on the same page and decide to move forward, we will get back to you with a funding offer that we deem consistent with your work and with our budget.

In case we don’t select your pitch, don’t get discouraged. We are not judging you as a person or as a professional; simply, other proposals are more in line with Hidden and its goals. We will explain to you, as far as possible, what weaknesses we found in the story you submitted, thus creating the basis for a potential future collaboration.

Note: Some of the stories we will fund may be published in partnership with other editorial projects and in multiple languages—​in addition to Italian and English. We are committed to being clear and transparent on this matter with those authors whom we will decide to publish.
